Complimenting Fabrics - What's a girl to do?

I am so very excited about finally doing something in my bedroom as far as decor - It's taken almost a year and I am really pleased to say I am doing very well on the budget so far.

After deciding on a lovely (or at least I think so) fabric for the curtain panels, I located a really nice Drexel dresser very similar to this that I am hoping to purchase~

 and we all know about my mirror score from JCPenney outlet.

 However not all of the elements in the room are going to be new purchases. I have a task ahead of me, I am going to attempt to cover a bench that I love and I am terrified I will mess this bench up. Truth of the matter is, the color no longer works with my vision for the room so, I have to do something with the bench, I am all torn up about this project.

The goal is to make the colors blend without the patterns being too close together, I am attracted most to the taupe, lighter blues and the ivory shades in the fabric I selected to for the curtain panels. I really want the room to be a serene place of comfort, with calming colors but not too drab and muted throughout. I am all open to suggestions if anyone has any. I am really enjoying this process, I just hope my vision comes to life.

An Accidental Score

I just had to show the pictures of what this post is all about first, I am so totally excited about this find!

I decided to go into the JCPenney outlet on March 1st, mainly because I was very determined to let someone in management know that I was totally dissatisfied with the way my phone call was handled early that morning. I called to inquire about a bed, not just any bed but a linen oatmeal fabric upholstered headboard, demi footboard and side boards. I will admit my anxiety may have the better of me right about now with the whole bed search because Ikea discontinued my bed I had been drooling over for one year plus literally the DAY BEFORE I decided to hop in my car and buy one... I could have driven over two hours to purchase one... but with gas at 4.40 per gallon here in my neck of the woods, I just surrendered to loss with the bed. I was sick to my stomach... wait, I am getting off track here! 

Ok - rant over LOL! So I go in to JCPenney furniture outlet with a purpose... to make some stink about the terrible service I received on the phone. Keep in mind, I am only going on a friends opinion of the bed after I had mentioned to her what it was I was looking for (and cried a little about the bed from Ikea - do you know they STILL show a commercial with the bed in it??? Like why are you taunting me... ok! I am getting off track again - deep sigh) a friend (the same friend who told me about the KitchenAid) sent me a photo of the bed on my phone and told me the price, but I could make out the word Addison on the tag; can you believe the person on the other end of the phone STILL pretended she had absolutely no idea what I was talking about... even after I gave her the name of the product???

(I know right??? so frustrating)

Well I waited all day until I was ready to head west for travels to pick my daughter up and casually walked right in to the store, right to the bed display and guess what was looking me straight in the face- You've got it ...  THE ADDISON BED! I was irritated and relieved all at the same time. The bed is lovely, I really love it.

As I was walking out... I saw a display with two different types of dresser mirrors being sold for 20.00 each and let me tell you, these are large mirrors! I thought to myself, "you need a mirror for the master bedroom, and at 20.00 - you could pretty much do whatever you wanted to the frame and not feel bad about it!  


Today turned out to be a really good day - I scored a beautiful mirror, purchased the fabric for my curtain panels and I have decided on the bed that I will put in my bedroom very soon since I have the fabric, I have decided the mirror will be painted cornflower blue. I mentioned in a post some time back that the state of my master bedroom is just offensive, no spice, sparkle or sassy anywhere in the bedroom but shortly ... this will change. If any of you are able to stop in a JCPenney outlet, do you normally walk away pleased? 


by the way - I went with the second mirror ... you will see the room starting to come together very soon!

Ready to Throw Up My Hands ~ Until...

I thought T had found the PERFECT panel fabric for my bedroom, 8.85 a yard... loved it!

Well, it got away... back to full price (3 times the sale price)
I then spotted this Richloom Jubilee fabric for 8.98 its close but not the exact fabric I loved.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw: 

Richloom Indoor/Outdoor Wildwood Jubilee 

 I found it on fabric.com 10.98 per yard, this is a couple dollars more than the fabric I wanted but it is very, very close and considering I want to make a bold statement with the panels and other elements in my room, I think I may be able to do a lot with this fabric. 

I feel soo much better because I literally dream about this bold pattern, I know it will wake my room up. I have not stopped in my local Home Fabrics store yet and will this week for myself and a gift exchange item.


I am ready to start adding elements to my room by selecting artwork and frames as well as put the pieces together and determine if they work in my room.


I am really looking for these colors to brighten up my space - Any suggestions?

Updated Table

You may remember the thrift store find I fell in love with for my bedroom:

Well I am finally able to put the table in it's rightful place, I painted the table Ivory Lace by behr, the table turned out nicely  (or at least I think so)

I hope to find just the right accessories to place on the table top... I am really liking hummingbirds for some reason, maybe I will find something that either has lovely little birds or even my sweet hummingbirds to add a little more depth to the table and the corner of the room I will put it in. 

The winds are extremely high today, so my plan for going out thrifting will have to wait, I don't want to risk Asa getting a cold.

Bedroom Blues ~ Hopes and Dreams

So, my bedroom is in a bit of a slump... Currently it serves its purpose as a place to sleep but that is about all... There is no pizzazz in my bedroom, no inspiration. I have been so busy with life, a new baby and recovery from my c-section (3rd might I add) that this room hasn't even seen the likes of a picture...

Slowly, this will change...

My bed, while I like it- and paid a mere 173.00 for the frame and slats, has to GO! I want a tufted bed, but that will have to wait a few more months... I wanted the bed to go at first because I just wanted a new bed, but now I am realizing all the hazards it could cause my baby boy... so its out of here before he can begin to scoot etc.

I also found the color scheme I want to go with for the room, I'm thinking of ivory or a wheat color with navy blue and burnt orange. I really want to add some deeper color to the bedroom. I will be covering the headboard and side boards with fabric. I'm waaay to chicken to try and dye it. I stumbled across this cotton fabric that I adore, I think it will make great curtains:

Lucy Eden Woven Drapery Fabric by Richloom - Item #SW10275

This fabric has ALL of the colors I want in my bedroom, it is perfect. I was so happy to see the price $8.85 per yard. I noticed the sale ends 11/21/11 so I'd better decide soon. Some  elements will remain in my room, the burnt orange tufted bench I currently have at the foot board, the stands beside the bed and lamps on each stand.

I also adore this fabric, I want the panels to stand out, I think this design will compliment the room nicely.

So for now we will focus on what I do have... A super cute thrift store find... from Salvation Army of course - I spent 18.50 on this cool table, look at the footing, it's sooo me and simple enough a table to make a statement. I think my lovely blue lamp will look great on this table.

So here is my vision - Paint the table (of course) either Behr's Ivory Snow or Cinnamon Cake, the two colors will make a statement and I love the khaki feel Cinnamon Cake has. This week has a great weather outlook, I plan to sand and paint the table. As for the bed, well... we will have to wait and see if Santa will be nice to me this year. In the meantime, I will work on simple elements and components of the room that transform the space.

She was a Good Deal!

Several Months ago, I wandered into the local Goodwill, just hoping to find something that I may be able to transform. To my delight, I happened upon a lamp for 7.50! It had a neat shade, for the time being, but the real thrill was the height and the shape of the lamp. I primed it, thinking I would paint it white or gold... then I realized, maybe I should hold off on painting it. The lamp was in the garage, virtually neglected until I decided to transform my bedroom into a more welcoming space. 




So I have plans to change my color scheme in my bedroom and give it a real boost by doing the following:


Paint the lamp navy blue
Paint the secretary navy blue
Select fabric for the curtain panels
Select fabric for the bed (I gave making my own headboard a lot of thought but changed my mind)
Paint the side table Ivory Snow (?)
Create an art/picture gallery
Make pillows
Find a neat chair for secretary




So here is the first item off my list... I must admit I LOVE this! Not to mention I was in Target yesterday evening and saw smaller lamp bases very similar to this one selling for 14.99 or 24.99 and of course, you still have to buy the shade.


I used two products on the lamp by Glidden, the Grey Primer and the new Doors and Trim product which I absolutely adore, its thick, doesn't run, dries super smooth, and doesn't have a strong, potent smell.

A Sweet Secretary

Since I knew the local Salvation Army was doing a half price Friday on September 23rd, I decided to pop in for a frame. I walked right by the furniture pieces, since I was on a mission and on a budget...on my way back, I stopped in my tracks... There she was... the sweetest little secretary desk...

 (My husband brought the desk inside the house before I could realize what he was doing, I just went ahead and took the pictures for the "before") 

I was hoping the price would be less than 60.00 so that with the half off sale, I could walk away with a new desk for 30.00 and to my surprise, the ticket price was 49.00!!!

I've seen secretary desks in retail stores and have gone into sticker shock looking at the asking prices, there is just no way to justify the expense...
